What is the CrossFit KIDS Program?

CrossFit KIDS is a method for teaching CrossFit to children ages 18mnths-18 years. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit KIDS emphasises good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

WHO IS THE CROSSFIT KIDS PROGRAM FOR?

Catering for children aged 18mnth-18 years, CrossFit KIDS is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children. Further, the needs of primary school kids and high-school students differ by degree and not kind; the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids. What this means is we can deliver our program to kids that have never been active before through to kids that compete at an elite level. This promotes an equal opportunity to be physically fit and physically active throughout their lives.

HOW DOES A CLASS WORK?

No two classes are the same, so kids and teens never get bored and the novelty of each class keeps them excited about participating. The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do when they play-pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of a thoroughly trained CrossFit KIDS Trainer.The best way to get a better understanding of what we do is to come down and see for yourself. WHAT CLASS WOULD MY CHILD BE IN?

JUNIORS 18mnths-4yrs, KIDS 5-8yrs,

YOUTH 9-11yrs or SuperYouth 12+yrs

CrossFit JUNIORS and KIDS has a focus on movement through game play. To keep the kids engaged and learning movements are taught and then practiced through games. Movements are body weight only with progress made through perfecting body mechanics & control. Both CrossFit YOUTH and SuperYouth have a focus on movement through a structured class setting similar to an adults class. We still have an emphasis on fun and movements are taught, then practiced in a structured setting. Movements progress from body weight to more advanced gymnastics as well as resistance training to suit the individual maturity of you child.
